Beginner's Guide

Complete walkthrough for new players. Everything you need to know to start your Devil Hunter journey.

Step 1: Race Selection

⚠️ CRITICAL: You cannot change your race after character creation without wiping your character. Choose carefully!

Your first decision is choosing between Human and Fiend. This is the most important choice you'll make. Read our detailed Race Selection Guide for complete comparison.

Human

RECOMMENDED

"Ordinary mortals who rely on grit, training, and contracts to survive."

  • Difficulty: Normal
  • Boosted Health
  • Can make devil contracts
  • More build flexibility
  • Better endgame potential

Fiend

HARD

"A corpse inhabited by a devil, retaining fragments of humanity but fueled by unnatural power."

  • Difficulty: Hard
  • Reduced Health
  • Boosted Regeneration
  • Limited move slots
  • Cannot craft weapons

Our Recommendation: Choose Human if you're a new player. You'll have more flexibility, easier difficulty, and better progression options. Only choose Fiend if you want a challenge and accept the limitations.

Step 2: Headquarters Tour

After character creation, you'll spawn in the Headquarters (HQ) - your base of operations. Here's what you need to do first:

First Quest - Find Kintoki

  1. Look for Kintoki in the center of HQ (NPC with golden question mark)
  2. Press E to interact and talk to him
  3. Accept the quest: "Talk to Starter Devil Hunter"
  4. Find all 6 division captains on Floor 1 and Floor 2
  5. Return to complete the quest
  6. Receive money for your first weapon (Humans only)

Look for this NPC:

Step 3: Choosing Your Weapon

⚠️ CRITICAL: You cannot change your weapon after selection without wiping your character! Choose carefully!

For Humans: After completing Kintoki's division captain quest, you'll receive money to buy your first weapon. You'll have 4 beginner weapons to choose from.

Beginner Weapon Choices

Katana - Medium Weapon

Katana

6,000 Yen

Medium Weapon

Balanced weapon with good reach and style. Great for beginners.

Kitchen Knife - Light Weapon

Kitchen Knife

~5,000 Yen

Light Weapon

Fast attacks and quick mobility. Good for aggressive playstyle.

Broad Axe - Heavy Weapon

Broad Axe

10,000 Yen

Heavy Weapon ⭐ RECOMMENDED

Best for endgame contracts. High damage and great with devil abilities.

1911 - Firearm

1911

10,000 Yen

Firearm ⚠️ NOT RECOMMENDED

Ranged weapon but generally weaker than melee options.

Our Recommendation: Choose Broad Axe (Heavy Weapon) for best endgame potential with contracts, or Katana for balanced gameplay. Avoid the gun unless you specifically want a ranged playstyle.

Step 4: Choosing Your Division

ℹ️ Important: Divisions are in-game factions (NOT the same as your race choice). Based on the community, it does not matter too much in long-term which division you choose. However, some have easier first quests to complete.

📖 For detailed information about all divisions and their starting quests, read our complete Division Guide.

Starting Quest Difficulty

EASY

Division 1, 2, 5

Division 1: Kill 5 devils + deal 2,500 damage

Division 2: Get devil flesh + use crafting station + craft weapon

Division 5: Buy from black market + use elevator to floor zero

MEDIUM

Division 6

Use surgery kit + talk to senior hunter Dorian Graves

Need help? Surgery Kit | Dorian Graves

HARD

Division 3

Kill devil offering contract + complete bounty contract

VERY HARD

Division 4

Complete mission + kill player + intercept mission (requires PvP)

Our Recommendation:

Choose Division 1, 2, or 5 for the easiest start. These divisions have the simplest starting quests and there's no downside - divisions don't affect your long-term progression or endgame power.

Step 5: Black Market (ESSENTIAL!)

💎 MOST IMPORTANT LOCATION: The Black Market is where you'll buy most of your materials for progression!

How to Access

  1. Press N to open your phone
  2. Go to Black Market tab
  3. It will teleport you there instantly!

What You Can Buy

  • Devil Flesh (Common, Uncommon, Rare, Epic, Mythic) - For crafting weapons
  • Body Parts (Arms, Legs, Eyes, Hearts) - For devil contracts

For Humans

Use devil flesh to craft better weapons at the Division 2 crafting table. Use body parts for devil contracts.

For Fiends

Eat devil flesh and body parts to gain Fear for progression (red indicator = Fear gained).

Pro Tip: Black Market restocks every 15 minutes. Check it regularly! Money is easy to earn from missions.

Step 6: Buy a Skateboard ASAP

The skateboard is the fastest way to traverse the map. Buy it as soon as you have 7.6k Yen!

How to Buy

  1. Press N to open your phone
  2. Go to Skateboard location
  3. Buy for 7.6k Yen (or roll for skins)
  4. Press H to use it

Why it's important: You'll spend a lot of time traveling between missions, HQ, and the Black Market. The skateboard saves massive amounts of time!

Next Steps

You're now ready to start your journey! Here's what to do next:

  1. Learn the combat system and controls
  2. Start running missions for XP and loot
  3. Farm devil flesh from the Black Market
  4. Craft better weapons (Humans) or eat for Fear (Fiends)
  5. Work toward your first rank up (fill 5 stars)
  6. Start working toward devil contracts (Humans)
